“So many typical love songs reflect toxic attitudes within relationships. I wanted to write a song about the beautiful love that can occur between two people that honor themselves and their dreams first, despite its difficulties.”
Sofía Paola
Classically trained Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Sofía Paola releases her new single, “Vacío,” a romantic ballad that defies the often-confrontational portrayal of love in modern pop songs.
Written between 2014 and 2015, “Vacío” was shaped during two integral moments of a romantic relationship: the nascent stage and a time of separation and uncertainty, when the artist was studying abroad, in Valencia, Spain.
“I wrote the song embodying those feelings of young love,” Sofía explains, “thinking about how I missed them, while also reflecting on a video I had seen of Eartha Kitt talking about relationships and compromise, where she stated ‘I fall in love with myself and I want someone to share it with me. I want someone to share me with me.'”
Drawing from the likes of Zoé and Sin Bandera, this delicate duet also features Cosme, lead vocalist of the Latin-alternative band Cometta.
“Vacio” is available on all major streaming platforms.
